Decide What Type of Vlog You Want To Produce
Ok, so do you want it to be a location focussed vlog, or do you want it to be a character focussed vlog? With my vlog Jet Lagged and Loving It, I try to balance between the two, but also at times will focus more on it being about us and our experiences of each location.
I always try to get shots of the locations so I can highlight to the audience where we are and if I want to I can add some voice over later with facts about what you are seeing on screen.
Some vlogs that people make are entirely footage of the locations and you never see the vlogger, whilst others are shot as if the camera is the vloggers eyes and even though you may rarely or never see the vlogger’s face, you get the sense that you are seeing things from their perspective. It’s important to note that this differs from a vlog which just shows locations as still shots or panning shots of a location alone may not give the sense of being in first person view (think like a video game like Halo or Doom).
Another thing to consider is the tone of your vlog. Do you want it to be factual and giving travel tips to viewers? Or do you want it to just be a log of your experiences? Will you try to be funny? Whatever your tone, I’d suggest you try to be consistent as your audience will grow accustomed to your style and if you find a tone that people like stick with it. Give the people what they want!
