Continuing our fun and games in a galaxy far far away we bring you some fun facts about Star Wars! Whilst we’re sure that most Star Wars fanatics will know all of the below, causual fans should prepare to have their minds blown!
Unlikely Catchphrase
The line ‘I have a bad feeling about this’ is said in every movie.
A Dark Twist
Luke Skywalker almost turned to the dark side in Return to the Jedi. George Lucas considered this option, but realised that the character Luke would always remain good and positive and hopeful…cough…Hear this Last Jedi?
Perfectly Timed Sequels?
Mark Hamill was the same age when he came back in The Force Awakens as Obi Wan Kenobi actor Alec Guinness was when he made the original Star Wars movie.
Not Baby Yoda?
Baby Yoda as he is known to many fans is not actually Yoda at all, but a different character. Throughout the first season of the Madalorian he was primarily referred to as The Child. In Season 2 we learned that the character’s actual name is Grogu.
Phone Home!
E.T appears in Star Wars episode 1 The Phantom Menace. This was a fun easter egg included by George Lucas as a nod to his friend and E.T director Steven Spielberg, but technically does connect the universes of the two franchises.
Nooooooo!
Darth Vader actor David Prowse fell out with George Lucas and didn’t speak for years up until Prowse’s death.
A Royal Visit
Prince William and Prince Harry both played Storm Troopers in a deleted scene in Star Wars The Last Jedi. They appeared in a scene which also featured Tom Hardy as another Storm Trooper, but unfortunately for the Princes, the scene was cut from the final movie.
Release The Lord and Miller Cut!
Much like the Snyder Cut of Justice League, the original directors of Solo A Star Wars Story, Lord and Miller were replaced a long way into production.
Say what R2?
R2-D2 was originally planned to speak English. It was during development it was decided that he would just speak in beeps, but the intention for what these beeps meant was retained and the other characters still react as though they would have.
Enter the Virtual World
The Madalorian uses new technology that replaces the need for green screens which had been heavily used in the making of the films since the prequel trilogy. This new technology puts the actors in front of giant video screens which display CGI locations that can be adjusted in real time, like controlling the camera in a video game. This allows the actors to see the locations that their characters would see, and not just have to imagine or guess what their surroundings would be as would happen when green screens are used.
How Many Have You Seen?
There have actually been 15 Star Wars films produced to date. This includes the three trilogies of Episodes I-IX, and the two recent side stories Rogue One and Solo which all released at the cinema. Along with these there is also the animated Star Wars The Clone Wars, which was originally intended as the first few episodes of the TV show of the same name. When George Lucas saw the progress of the series he decided that the opening episodes should be restructured as a theatrical release to lead into the remaining episodes as the TV show.
Lastly there are the often forgotten and frequently mocked made for live action TV specials Star Wars Holiday Special, and the two Ewok based movies; The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.
