The Everglades are one of the best places to visit if you’re planning to take a trip to Florida. Everglades National Park is a brilliant location if you enjoy nature and wildlife and in our time exploring the vast wetland we certainly saw lots to be excited about.

Below is the Jet Lagged and Loving Travel Vlog we captured of our time in the Everglades, and as you’ll see in the video we got lots of opportunities to get up close and personal with the aligators and other wildlife in the area.

One of the best things we did in our time in the national park was take a trip on a hovercraft where you’ll speed along and really feel the air rush by, which was super refreshing as it was very hot even though we were there in early March. You’ll take frequent stops if there are things of interest that the tour guide spots, so you’ll have a good opportunity to learn about how the slow moving river (about 1 mile every 24 hours!) works and the animals that live there.

Make sure you put in the ear plugs that they provide you with though as the hovercraft is loud!

After this guided tour we were able to see some of the aligators up close, including getting the opportunity to hold a baby aligator! They put a very loose band over it’s snout to stop it giving you a nip, but it was also interesting to see just how generally chill the aligators were and that they’ll happilly just sit in the sun and soak in the rays.

Having experienced the park on the waters we then took a vehicular tour which was a 14 mile round trip and as you’ll see on the vlog we alsmost got left behind at the 7 mile mark! There were people walking and others on bicycles, but with the intense heat and frequent gators hanging around at the side of the roads I’m pleased that we were able to get back on the tram.

Overall visiting the Everglades was quite unlike any national park I’d ever been to and a great place to enjoy a day in the sun. As well as the gators we were also able to see turtles, various birds and I believe there were some crocodiles in the area too, but my limited knowledge about the big snappy things means I couldn’t tell if everything I saw were aligators or crocs.

That’s it for today’s look at the Everglades, but be sure to see our adventures in video form on the above vlog. We’ve still got lots to show from our time in Florida and will have another blog/vlog combo soon where we experience some of the big theme parks and also check out some more wildlife and nature as we head underwater.
