Deadpool and the Strange Return of Pyro

In Deadpool and Wolverine we got a bunch of cameos and more significant returns of actors from past non MCU Marvel films.

But the one I’ve thought about a lot is the return of Aaron Stanford as Pyro.

Having not been in an X-Men movie since X-Men The Last Stand in 2006, and also not being the biggest star, with few leading roles in the almost twenty years since that film, it’s weird to see him as the defacto second in command to the movie’s big bad in Cassandra Nova AKA female Charles Xavier.

But I feel that he was in the movie for one reason and that is because they brought back Chris Evans as his Fantastic Four character Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch.

A big reveal in the film is that Evans was back, and they wanted you to believe that he is returning as Captain America, only for the (see it a mile away) reveal that he is in fact playing his Fantastic Four character The Human Torch.

This is followed up by him being quickly and painfully defeated before later being humiliated and killed by Cassandra Novak after the loose lips of Deadpool riling up Cassandra.

But for The Human Torch to be so easily defeated required a villain who could be the rock to his scissors and that meant Pyro who can manipulate fire was the perfect character to do this. And so, I’m pleased for Pyro getting another shot on the screen, but truly, I think he was only included because his powers made him the only one who could make the joke of the Human Torch work.
