Christian Cage has been on a roll in his short time in All Elite Wrestling and at All Out will face Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship. But before that point Christian was able to set the wrestling world on fire with a stunning victory over Kenny Omega to capture the Impact wrestling World Heavyweight Championship.
This historic victory is made even more remarkable because of the following facts we’ll detail here. So without further ado, here’s 5 incredible facts about Christian Cage’s Impact Championship win.
6. This was Christian’s first Impact Wrestling or TNA World Championship Win
Many people will be shocked to hear that despite being the face of TNA Wrestling for a number of years and being the World Champion in the company, he was never actually TNA/Impact World Champion. Christian Cage was there during the era in which TNA used the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship as their World Title and that is where his reigns fell. In fact Christian was the final NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion of their TNA era, with his loss of the title to Kurt Angle being recognised as Kurt becoming the first TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
5. Christian won this World Championship exactly 10 years to the day since he lost his last World Championship
Christian won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship twice, with his second reign coming to an end at SummerSlam 2011, which took place on August 14th 2011. It was fitting that his first World Championship win would come exactly 10 years later on the debut episode of AEW Rampage on August 11th 2021.
4. Christian has the longest gap between World Championship reigns in Impact history
Christian lost the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship to Kurt Angle in a 3 way dance which also featured Sting at the TNA Sacrifice PPV in 2007. TNA had just ended their agreement with the NWA to be able to use the NWA World Championship as their World Title, so Christian was just announced as the World Champion, but it would be Kurt who would be recognised as the first TNA World Champion after winning. Also as a bonus trivia point, despite Kurt celebrating with the NWA World Championship in hand, he isn’t recognised as a former NWA World Champion.
