Tiny Atari 2600 Review

The Atari 2600 is one of the most well known and loved gaming consoles of all time. It was the first real smash hit success gaming console ever released and saw tons of favourite games avaialble as cartridges.

Well now, you can get an iddy biddy teeny weeny version to play anywhere and any when! The World’s Smallest Atari 2600 tiny Arcade is a cool little novelty product.

Designed to look like a tiny CRT TV with a mini Atari 2600 console attached to it, which in turn has a classic Atari joystick connected to that, it’s just about the right size for a Funko Pop figure to be able to get in a game of Pong.

The mini TV is small, but amusingly is thicker than my actual TV, so it shows how big old CRT TVs really were, and this unit is truly the console. The small box which is designed to look like an Atari 2600 has a reset button on it that functions, but otherwise is just there for show and to bridge the gap to the wired joystick.

The joystick works fairly well, although expect to get some degree of cramp in your hands if you try to play on this things for more than a few minutes.

The games you get on the World’s Smallest Atari 2600 include games like Pong, Breakout, Centipede, Asteroids and Pac-Man. It’s nice that Pac-Man was included as it’s not an Atari game and is owned by Namco.

The games are a mixed bag and whilst they are all playable enough, some are better to play on this than others. Pac-Man plays just fine, although this is based on the Atari 2600 game and not the original arcade version of Pac-Man.

Missile Command actually plays really nicley too which is a surprise as it’s a game where you have to use the tiny joystick to move a target on screen. Centipede is an example of a game that doesn’t play as well just because the centipede moving down the screen is so fast and it’s hard to keep track of the tiny pixels as you destroy the monster.

Conclusion

This is a nice little novelty which would make a great present for Atari or retro game fans. It shouldn’t be seen as the best way to play any of these games, but if you want a fun item to have on your desk then this may be worth picking up!
