Top Ten Pro Wrestling Dream Matches

Wrestling dream matches are something that fans around the world love to fantasy book. What if this guy wrestled this guy? Who was better from different eras? Why did this match never happen? Fans will speculate for as long as there is wrestling. In this list, let’s go over the top 10 pro wrestling dream matches!

10: The Rock vs Roman Reigns

Of all the matches on this list, this one is the most likely to actually happen. For years there have been rumours that The Rock will step back into the ring to face his cousin, the Head of the Table, Roman Reigns. And if Rocky ever did come back to lay down the challenge and the Smacketh down, we can be certain that he wouldn’t see Roman as the head of his family table!

9: AJ Styles vs Shawn Michaels

AJ vs HBK has to be up there as one of the biggest missed opportunities in wrestling. With Shawn retiring in 2010, and AJ not joining WWE until 2016, it may seem that they missed each other by years. However it’s worth noting that AJ Styles had been in WCW when they were bought by WWE, but they failed to come to terms with AJ. AJ was then insanely loyal to TNA, and WWE didn’t do all they could to get the Phenomenal one. If they had, the match would have also been phenomenal.

You have to imagine that these two facing off would have been the ultimate match up of two insanely talented wrestlers inspiring each other for more and more creative offense. This would have easily been up their with the best of either man’s career.

8: Andre the Giant vs The Big Show

This match wouldn’t have ever been possible. Andre passed in 1993, a couple of years before the Big Show made his debut in WCW (where it was being said that he was Andre’s son). Had Andre lived, he was still many years past his prime with health and mobility problems.

But that aside, let’s consider if these two could have met in their prime. It would have been a short slug fest. We have to imagine that Andre would come out on top, but people would just remember the visual of these two standing face to face for a stare down.

7: The Young Bucks vs The Rockers

Never mind The Young Bucks vs The Hardy Boys. That match has happened and whilst it was good, you have to believe that Matt and Nick Jackson in the ring with Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels would have been even better. Yes, the Rockers style may have been a little more old school than what people see from the Bucks, but I can imagine a meeting in the middle of styles with the Bucks doing less crazy spots and the Rockers being able to pull out things the likes of which we never saw them do back in the day.

6: The nWo vs D-Generation X

The closest we ever got to this was when the nWo ran in to fend off DX in the Triple H vs Sting WrestleMania match. Unfortunately by this stage, Hogan, Hall and Nash were all pretty much past their ability to have any kind of in ring conflict, and other than Billy Gunn who defies all of space and time, most of DX weren’t who they once were.

If this could have happened in late 99 it would have been a feud that would have needed to end in War Games.

5: Hulk Hogan vs Stone Cold Steve Austin

Austin and Hogan didn’t happen and that was partly because of lack of trust from Austin to Hogan. Seeing the two biggest WWF stars from the 80s and 90s go head to head would have been amazing, but the silver lining is that because this wasn’t on the cards we ended up getting Hogan vs Rock as WrestleMania X8, and that is one of the greatest and most memorable matches of all time.

4: Bret Hitman Hart vs Kurt Angle

Bret vs Kurt would have to be a contender for greatest in ring match that never happened. Kurt really wanted it and just as Kurt would have an incredible match with Shawn, he must have realised he would go together with Bret like chocolate and ice cream. The two could have easily done a serie sof matches where they all felt different and built upon the last, and I can see that their feud would have ended with an iron man match to rival and perhaps topple Bret’s WrestleMania 12 match with HBK.

3: Jim Cornette vs Vince Russo

So no one would expect this to be a good match. In fact I don’t expect it would be a match at all. It would be a fight based on who brought the better weapon and managed to use it first. Cornette would certainly be the aggressor, but Russo would probably pre-plan a bunch of twists and run ins that mean that he barely gets involved. One thing can be certain and that is if the two ever met for a fight, only one would walk away from it!

2: Sting vs The Undertaker

It could have happened and it should have happened. WWE teased Sting leaving TNA to enter into a feud with Taker, but the pre-emptive marketing gave Sting second thoughts about joining WWE. When Sting did eventually join WWE his time there was short and he ended up retiring after an injury in a match with Seth Rollins.

If this had happened it would have needed to be at a WrestleMania and would have been the ultimate physchological warefare as well as a hard hitting match.

1: Bill Goldberg vs Stone Cold Steve Austin

Well it had to be didn’t it? The ultimate dream match form the Attitude era was Stone Cold vs Goldberg. The two biggest stars in the rival WWF and WCW promotions. Add to that that they were both bad asses with black trunks and shaved heads and it was almost like a mirror dimension affair.

This match perhaps would have only lasted 10-15 minutes and it is impossible to say who would win.
