The episode opens with Carol and Daryl and we can guess it’s not long since we last saw the pair a couple of episodes back.
It’s good to see Daryl still has the dog, but soon enough the pair go separate ways and the dog decides to go with Carol leaving Daryl with a amusing reaction to this rejection. It’ll be interesting to see what new dynamic the dog brings to The Walking Dead. He’s not as stand out as the Tiger was but is a bit more realistic to include in storylines.
Carol has a socially distanced interaction with Jerry who it feels like we’ve not seen in ages. And whilst the conversation isn’t the most exciting as it focussed on making soup, its always nice to see the characters attempt to restore a sense of a normal world between their walker hunting missions.
We then got a montage of Carol prepping the soup and just as it felt like we may get our first post apocalyptic cooking show the dog started going crazy searching for a rat and ended up causing a little chaos in the kitchen.
It’s again at this stage when Carol has another montage to show her building a rat trap that I again questioned what this episode was about. This isn’t always a bad thing for a show to discover it’s story as it goes along, but it’s such a habit of The Walking Dead to take the slow route to building a story and it can be hit or miss how often it feels like they land on a winner.
A cool moment does soon come when Daryl tries to remove parts from an abandoned car complete with Walker inside. In a tense moment it looked like the Walker moving inside the vehicle was going to cause it to crush Daryl underneath, but it is quickly nit the case and he gets away.
The next excitement in the episode comes when Daryl realised that he gave Carol his pocket knife and needs it to fix his bike. Fortunately he comes across some walkers which include a couple of soldiers and can take all their supplies including pocket knives from them.
Carol’s adventures recreating Tom and Jerry add a light moment to the show, and allow her to further build a connection with the dog, which may be the best new character on the show in a couple of years.
This leads into her smashing a wall during the night to hunt for the rat and this echo’s the Breaking Bad episode about Walt catching a fly for me. An intriguing watch, but one littered with questions of why am I still watching it?
Jerry shows back up to check in on Carol and the rat flees, and then Daryl comes back and then the episode wraps up. This concluded what was inoffensive, but one of the most boring episodes of the series to date.
Conclusion
Overall this episode was more like a safe and familiar visit with our old friends Daryl and Carol and not enough post apocalyptic excitement. The episode is almost completely devoid of a story and is one of the most easy to skip in the grand scheme of things.
