Metroid Prime
One of the greatest game son the GameCube is the return of Samus in Metroid Prime. After having adventures on the NES, Game Boy and Super Nintendo Samus skipped the Nintendo 64, but when arriving on the GameCube significantly changed things up in the shift from 2D to 3D.
Whilst many would have expected a 3D Metroid to be a third person adventure similar to Tomb Raider, the game actually translated wonderfully as a first person adventure. You’ll note that I say first person adventure and not first person shooter. Yes there is lots of shooting in this game, but the game is so much more than that.
Of course at the time of it’s release it was unfairly compared to Xbox smash hit Halo. Yes they were both first person games which featured a similar looking space suit wearing protagonist, but where as Halo put the emphasis on combat evolved and multiplayer, Metroid Prime was about the single player experience and exploration and puzzles.
