Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes
One of the biggest games that was exclusive to the PSOne and that did not appear on the Nintendo 64 was Metal Gear Solid. It was hailed as one of the greatest games of all time, and despite Metal Gear having a presence on the NES, Solid Snake didn’t come out to play again on Nintendo until this remake of Metal Gear Solid arrived on GameCube.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes followed the footsteps of Resident Evil Remake on the GameCube and delivered a modernised take on the past generation classic.
In the game you got the full story pretty much as you will have remembered it, but with new recorded dialogue and more cinematic cut scenes, and some of the gameplay updates that had been introduced in the PS2 Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty. This included the ability to aim and shoot in first person which really gave you an edge compared to how things were in the original.
This game was a collaboration between Nintendo and Konami and was developed primarily by then Nintendo second party developer Silicon Knights who had produced the well received Eternal Darkness.
Sales of the game perhaps under performed hopes, but this may have been that this was a remake whilst Konami announced that PS2 would be getting Metal Gear Solid 3 only a few months later. With no announcement that Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3 would be getting a GameCube release it perhaps hurt this games chances as only the biggest fans of the series would buy the system to go backwards in the series rather than go forwards on PS2.
Despite this the game was a solid rerelease and a valuable rarity these days, so if you have a copy keep hold of it!
