The GameCube is the machine that Nintendo put out as their answer to the PS2, and was the last time Nintendo took the approach of battling the console wars based on putting out a more powerful machine than the competition.
Following the poorer than hoped performance of the Nintendo 64 Nintendo made big changes on the GameCube including finally making the move from cartridges to discs (even if they were mini in size) and doing more to bring back some of the big third party developers who had skipped over the N64.
Whilst we now know that Nintendo wouldn’t reach superstar success in the home console market again until the Wii, the GameCube is like Nintendo’s best kept secret where there are so many great games available and many of them were exclusive to the little purple cube back in the day.
