6: Glee
So here’s a funny thing. Disney made the Highschool Musical film which inspired the TV series Glee, and when Disney Plus launched they created a new TV series of Highschool Musical which people compared to Glee. Now Disney have the rights to Glee itself so they have all of the originals and imitators and imitators of the imitators!
This show won’t be for everyone, but if you enjoy cheesy music and high school dramas this will be everything you could hope it would be. Glee dealt with some serious topics during it’s run and balanced this well in between covers of Don’t Stop Believing and Take On Me. The latter even went the extra mile to replicate the iconic music video’s rotoscoped art style.
5: Futurama
Good news everyone! Unlike The X Files which is also on this list, Futurama features every episode from it’s original run and from it’s revival. With The Simpsons already on the Disney Plus service it’s great to get this show to sit alongside it which it should have done since day one.
Futurama sees pizza delivery boy Philip J Fry frozen in time in 1999 and awaken 1000 years later. There he falls in love with a cyclops woman called Leela and is best friends with a suicidal robot called Bender. With a huge cast of side characters including the Robot Devil and everyone’s favourite Lobster Zoidberg…I mean Doctor Zoidberg.
