There are several Mission Burritos across the UK and if you fancy a filling wrap filled with meat, rice and flavour this may be worth checking out.
During a day trip to Oxford we recently got two burritos which we put to the test. These were the Chicken Tinga and the Ancho Chile Beef.
When you make your order you’ll be able to customise what you have in your burrito. We went with black beans with the beef and pinto beans with the chicken. Both with guacamole and pico de gallo which are finely diced tomatoes, onions with chiles, coriander and lime. Oh and of course rice and cheese as well, although I thought the quantity of cheese was a bit lacking.
For me, I felt that the burritos didn’t quite do it for me. I can imagine they’d fall into the realm of something I have once in a blue moon and then feel a bit disappointed by and decide not to have again for months or more.
The chicken one lacked a little flavour for what I’d hoped for. It was fine, but wasn’t instantly that great flavour I expected. The beef certainly had more flavour and was quite spicy in comparison. Not so much that it was bothersome, but more of a welcome warmth. What was less welcome with the beef was a slight aftertaste which as best as I can describe it was old socks.
That may sound overly harsh, and to be honest I have never tasted old socks, but when people describe something as tasting as old socks the beef burrito had that vibe that I imagine.
I do feel that our sharing of both the chicken and the beef made for a better combination than if we’d had either one separately.
Conclusion
The chicken and the beef were both fine, but nothing spectacular. If you like burritos generally I’m sure there will be better out there, but also that you’d be more into them than I was. If you’re not so fussed about burritos I’m sure this may be nice once in a while, but maybe see if there’s alternatives in the area for lunch.
