Lego Super Mario Adventures With Luigi Starter Course Review

Lego Super Mario Adventures With Luigi Starter Course Review

It was only a matter of time after the Lego Super Mario figure was released that the world would get a Luigi set. Fortunately fans haven’t had to wait too long and this brilliant kit is every bit as good as the Mario starter course.

If you’re starting with Luigi and chosen to begin with the younger Mario Brother, this is a particularly interactive Lego concept. The box contains several packets which allow you to make the various parts of the Mario style level. Also included is the Luigi figure which is much larger than a standard Lego figure and is battery operated to allow Lego Luigi to interact with and react to the various parts of the course that you can build.

Just like the Mario figure, the Luigi model has eyes that light up and are expressive. The chest of the character also has a display which shows what environment Luigi is currently stood on. This in particular is cool, if for nothing else then when Luigi is stood on something which is the colour green the display mimics the look of the original brick Game Boy Super Mario Land game.

The eyes of Luigi are just as expressive as Mario and you get blinks and funny swirls when Luigi stands on something that would injure the plumber. There’s dozens of different reactions and the figure can be used in conjunction with a smart phone app to give lots of challenges and scenarios to add lots of replay value beyond the usual requirement of just your imagination with a plastic figure! This is a Lego set based on the most famous video game franchise of all time after all!

The rest of the set features one of the Koopalings, a pink Yoshi and a Bone Goomba, and various platforms and levels of height to build up to replicate a whole level form the original Super Mario Bros game. This can go with the Super Mario Starter course, or can be combined with any of the other additional sets in the series and mixed and matched so the variations on Mario levels you can design or recreate from the games are soon going to be endless. You can even use the Bluetooth feature of the figure to do two player challenges.

Conclusion

Arguably the combination of Boom Boom and Luigi isn’t as compelling as the combo of Super Mario and Bowser Jr, but the ace up the sleeve here is the pink Yoshi as this is the only way to get a Yoshi outside of the dedicated Super Mario House and Yoshi expansion set. The actual course you can design here is just as good as the Mario edition and for those with a soft spot for the green wearing Mario Brother this is an essential kit.

This kit also stands a reasonable chance of being rarer as it can be expected that most people will have satisfied their need for Mario Lego with the Mario Starter Course. And while this won’t ever become a super rare set, it may prove to be one that collectors find trickier to track down in a few years to come.

This set won’t give many headaches to Lego enthusiasts to build, and will provide a lot of fun to play with for kids and adults alike as the interactive Luigi figure is always fun to switch on and interact with.
