In January 2020 Rachel and I were in Vienna in Austria, and one of the top things on Rachel’s to do list was for us to take a day trip to Bratislava in Slovakia. This was my very first day trip to another country, and truth be told I had little to no knowledge of Bratislava, or Slovakia as a whole.
As always we were ready with the trusty Panasonic GH4 and our mobile phones to capture our adventures, and for the few hours we spent in the country we captured this travel vlog!
Whilst we didn’t have enough time to see all of what this charming rustic capital city had to offer, we certainly had time to see some of the highlights.
Our main destination was to see the impressive Bratislava Castle which will give you a healthy hike up the uneven hill of the Little Carpathians. Along the way you’ll get a great view of the Danube River which is a fab photo opportunity, and although our time in the city didn’t permit it, if you wanted a city view that included the castle itself you could always visit the UFO Tower half way across the river to gain a different perspective.
Whilst at the castle we chose to stop by a local resturant where we picked up some more schnitzels (we grew addicted to them after a few days in Austria) and also got some Bryndzové halušky, which is the country’s national dish. If you’ve never tried it, it’s potato dumplings in sheep cheese and bacon. Delicious!
Whilst there you may also want to check out St Martin’s Cathedral which is a gothic church form the 15th century, or the Old Town Hall which houses the Bratislava Museum. We also couldn’t resist a few photo opportunities with the cool statues around the place including the famous Cumil the Sewer Worker, who is a bronze statue which always has crowds of people lining up for a snap shot.
