Last night All Elite Wrestling held their biggest PPV of the year which was double main evented by the in ring debut of CM Punk against Darby Allin, and Christian Cage facing AEW World Champion Kenny Omega.
Punk won his debut match in the company, and this was his first pro wrestling match in over 7 years. This followed his debut in the company a few weeks ago on the second edition of AEW Rampage.
Earlier in the night we got the hotly anticipated match between Jon Moxley and Kojima which was Kojima’s first match for AEW, although as part of the forbidden door deal with NJPW, this appearance can be expected to be one and done…at least for now. After Moxley picked up the win, we got the surprise appearance of Minoru Suzuki also from NJPW who exchanged blows back and forth with Mox before dominating him with a pile driver.
But we’re only getting started on the debuts here as Ruby Soho, who formally wrestled in WWE as Ruby Riott made her AEW debut in the women’s Casino Battle Royal match. Picking up the victory, she will now go on to face AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker in a title match.
The biggest debuts of the show came following the conclusion of the main event. After Kenny Omega defeated Christian Cage to retain his AEW World Championship members of the Elite appeared and continued to beat down Christian.
Jungle Boy, and Luchasaurus ran in to help Christian but we’re outnumbered before Kenny got on the mic and proclaimed that he had no equals and that his only equal was dead. Cue the lights going out to the roar of the crowd.
Adam Cole then made his debut after weeks of speculation that he would be leaving WWE and NXT. His appearance isn’t the biggest shock as Adam Cole’s girlfriend Britt Baker has been in AEW since day one, and Cole himself had previously been a member of the Elite/Bullet Club with the Bucks and Omega.
What was a surprise was that Cole instantly super kicked Jungle Boy and aligned himself with the Elite where it may have been expected that he would rival Kenny at least for a little while.
Finally in the worst kept secret in wrestling since the debut of CM Punk we saw the AEW debut of Bryan Danielson (formally Daniel Bryan in WWE) It’s long been known that Bryan wasn’t always happy with things in WWE, where literally for years they wouldn’t let him wrestle due to past injuries, and that despite main eventing this year’s WrestleMania Bryan had desires to wrestle elsewhere.
It’s believed that his deal with AEW will still see him able to wrestle for companies such as AAA and NJPW.
