34: Undertaker vs Sycho Sid – WrestleMania 13
Undertaker is one of the best wrestlers of all time, but some have noticed that there is a trend that he is sometimes only as good as his opponent. This isn’t always true as he is better than most of his opponents, but it is the fact that if you put Taker in the ring with Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels you can get an excellent match to match the ability of his foe, but he can also be brought down by a worse opponent.
In the case of Undertaker vs Sid the match is mostly forgettable, although we end up with Taker winning his second WWF World title which is good. The build for the match was affected by Shawn losing his smile, so that this wasn’t the original plan for the main event at all. Also on the same show this had to follow Bret Hart vs Steve Austin in the match that made Austin the superstar he would become.
33: Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice – WrestleMania 8
And it’s Sid again! And by this you may think that we’re not fans of Sid. Not true, but both his main event matches are on the weaker end of the scale. Sid should have won the Royal Rumble in 1992 after he eliminated Hulk Hogan. Hogan was the sore loser who pulled Sid out the ring and enabled Ric Flair to become WWF Champion. In this sense Hogan acted like a heel. This was the first aspect of bad logic going into this match but not the last.
Despite Flair being WWF champion, his match with Randy Savage didn’t go on last, and once again Sid had a match better match his main event had to follow. Hogan was often put against bigger and more powerful antagonists with the logic of making Hogan seem like a six foot eight underdog, but the issue here is that with giant guys in the ring neither can do too many power moves.
This match is famous for Sid kicking out of Hogan’s leg drop when he wasn’t supposed to and then having a weird ending where Papa Shango ran out and then we got the return of the Ultimate Warrior who looked smaller and people thought was a fake. This was a long way off from the Hogan Warrior main event from two years prior.
