36: Hulk Hogan vs King Kong Bundy – WrestleMania 2

WrestleMania 2 is a unique Mania in that it is the only one to take place at three venues. Each had a big match, but the real main event and final match of the show was Hulk Hogan vs the giant man King Kong Bundy inside the big blue steel cage.

The two went to war and Hogan was able to show off his viciousness as Bundy got busted open. Bundy’s size was enough to keep Hogan in check as he struggled to slam and pick up the weight of Bunday at times. They both attempted to escape the cage many times and there many close calls as Bundy saw himself half way out the cage. Eventually Hogan would hulk up and scoop slam Bundy to the shock of everyone. It may have been in this moment that the idea for Hogan slamming Andre at the next years Mania was born.

The ending of the match came as Hogan managed to climb over the cage to escape as Bundy was unable to get to the door in time. After the match Hogan chased Bobby the Brain Heenan into the ring to some well deserved payback.

35: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Lawrence Taylor – WrestleMania 11

This match deserves a lot of credit for being a one on one WrestleMania main event match up featuring a celebrity non wrestler who holds his own and plays his part to put on a decent match. Was it good enough to be a main event of WrestleMania? Not as a wrestling match. As an opportunity for the WWF to try to pull in mainstream press? Sure maybe, but Lawrence Taylor won a match and wasn’t going to stick around as the next big superstar. This spot could have gone to someone else. It also didn’t elevate Bam Bam as he wasn’t really used as a main eventer after this. Yeah this would have been fine to have on the show, but the real main event of the show was Shawn vs Diesel.
