Every WrestleMania Event Match Ranked From Worst To Best

Here’s our list of every WrestleMania main event which we have ranked in order from worst to best. As a couple of ground rules before we begin, to qualify as the main event we have only counted matches which have gone on last on the show. Some shows have had double or triple main events and in recent years with multiple world titles this list could in theory be three times as long.

The only exceptions to the rule is where there have been WrestleManias split across two nights or we have gotten extra final matches which weren’t advertised before the shows. In these cases we have counted more than one match per WrestleMania.

38: Yokozuna vs Hulk Hogan – WrestleMania 9

So in fairness to this match, it was less an actual match and more of a post match twist.

For those of you who don’t remember it, the advertised main event of WrestleMania 9 was Yokozuna going against WWF World Champion Bret Hart. Hart lost the match to Yokozuna after interference from Mr Fugi and Hulk Hogan came out to check on his best friend Bret Hart (yes this was sarcasm). Then for some reason Mr Fuji challenged Hulk Hogan to wrestle Yokozuna and even put the belt on the line even though Yokozuna had just been in a war with Bret Hart.

Yokozuna held Hogan who ducked before Fuji could throw salt in his eyes and it hit the big man by mistake. The Hulkster took the opportunity to knock down Yoko and hit the leg drop for the win and his fifth world championship reign.

This was all silly, and clearly Yokozuna was a transitional champ just to take the belt of Hart and put it onto Hogan. Is this the worst main event of WrestleMania of all time? As a bonus match, is it fair to judge next to all other matches equally? If you see this match as equal to when Seth Rollins cashed in the money in the bank in the main event of WrestleMania, it doesn’t seem quite so weak as a surprise title change in the main event. I mean it was no where no as good as that was, so we’re still ranking it last, but something had to be last didn’t it.

37: Brock Lesnar vs Drew McIntyre – WrestleMania 36

WrestleMania 36 – the Mania that kinda didn’t happen and the one with two almost non existent World Championship matches. After Roman Reigns decided to step aside from his match with Goldberg he faced Braun Strowman in the other title match. So instead of getting the battle of the spears we got 4 minutes of Goldberg doing one move on loop until Braun Strowman took the belt. This was a match that was never planned and you can understand that between Goldberg being old and Braun being a giant we couldn’t expect too much matt wrestling or jack hammers.

We did still have higher hopes for the other main event which was Drew McIntyre challenging Brock after eliminating him in the Royal Rumble. In that Rumble Brock dominated like never before and only Drew could take him out. Now with a one on one fight we got…another four minute match.

This is probably a result of Brock looking at the situation with the pandemic and saying ‘Screw this, I ain’t wrestling in front of no fans’ and then choosing to drop the belt as quickly as possible and then heading home to wait out the pandemic. It wasn’t the WrestleMania moment Drew deserved for his first World title win.
