Every Amiga A500 Mini Game Ranked

Every Amiga A500 Mini Game Ranked

14. California Games

California game sis an all time classic and one of the most prominent games of it’s era. The package contained several different sports for players to dig their teeth into and learn the various skills and tactics required to thrive. Skatebaording, bikes, surf and others were all here in this totally tubular beach based experience.

13. Titus the Fox

Titus the Fox is fun game which has plenty to see and do in some platforming action. One of the first things you’ll notice when you start the game is that the world that Titus lives in feels much more gritty and real than the mushroom kingdom.

12. Qwak

Qwak is a charming 2D puzzle platformer where you play as a happy little green duck who has to throw eggs at baddies and solve puzzles to collect keys and find his way to the exit. There were a bunch of platformers for the Amiga and Qwak is one of the more memorable.

11. Project X

2D shoot ‘em ups were once upon a time one of the big genres in gaming. Nowadays we often have to go to the classics to get our fix, and Project X is a great example of a shoot ‘em up on the Amiga. Waves of enemies will test you as you try to get through the game and defeat the huge bosses. Only your nerves and wit (and maybe some save states) will help get you to the end.

10. Super Cars 2

Our favourite of the racing games on the A500 Mini. The top down graphics are clear and detailed and it features easy to get into gameplay which encourages you to keep playing to learn the tracks and how to best progress through them to take the lead.

9. Arcade Pool

Arcade Pool is an easy game to find yourself lost in. You can easily put in a few hours of 8 Ball and 9 Ball with the mentality of ‘just one more game’.  Learning the tricks to make the big breaks on the game is surprisingly involved as you can adjust the angle, speed and position of your shots.

8. Speedball 2

Speedball is a fictional futuristic arena sport which is a bit like handball. The sport feels like it was lifted from a Philip K Dick novel or film adaptation like Minority Report or Total Recall. The sport is brutal as you smash into opponents and bound the ball of the side of the area to try to get best position to score the most goals.

7. Another World

The graphics on Another World are both dated and beautiful in equal measure. The game give you a sense of a very alive world in a true cinematic experience. Gameplay wise, the game is challenging and unforgiving as it rewards you for learning the beats of the story to progress, and punishes you, Space Ace style for any mistakes.

6. Alien Breed 3D

Alien Breed 3D is a great example of a Doom clone on the Amiga. Gameplay and graphics both shine in a game which many back in the day thought was not possible on the Amiga. You finally got to blast the aliens in 3D on the Amiga on Alien Breed 3D and although you only get a limited sized window to see the action, this only adds to the sense of atmosphere in the game.

5. Simon the Sorcerer

There were a ton of great point and click adventure games on the Amiga, and although we’d rank the Monkey Island games as the best and certainly the funniest of the bunch, you can’t go far wrong with the fantastic Simon the Sorcerer. With great graphics and animation, the game has a great storyline as you play as the would be wizard from a time begore Harry Potter.

4. Alien Breed

Atmospheric, claustrophobic, and at times scary. Alien Breed sees you trying to find keys and salvation as you battle or try to run away from a horde of xenomorph like alien creatures. Just remember, the monsters are not xenomorphs…even though they look exactly like them.

3. Zool

The Amiga didn’t have Sonic or Mario, but it did have a ninja ant from the Nth dimension. This is about as close to a Sonic game as you can get on the Amiga, and with it’s bright visuals and memorable enemies this is a platformer you’ll return to again and again.

2. Worms The Directors Cut

The amazing Worms series started life on the Amiga, and this director’s cut of the original game is the best way to play Worms on the Amiga. It always has been and always will be fun to control a platoon of earthworms and take them to war against more worms using weird weapons such as banana bombs and sheep on a rope.

1. The Chaos Engine

And our top game on the A500 Mini is the fantastic Chaos Engine from The Bitmap Brothers. A classic action adventure top down shooter set in a steam punk world of machinery and monsters. With great visuals and exciting environments to explore, this game is worth getting the system for alone!
