Evercade VS Revealed For Release Later This Year

Evercade VS Revealed For Release Later This Year

Following our series of Evercade reviews here on the site, including yesterday’s review of the Oliver Twins Collection, we have some hot off the press news on the future of the Evercade brand of gaming devices.

Today Blaze Entertainment revealed a new home console in the Evercade family of systems called the Evercade VS. You can see the trailer below:

The system will be compatible with all current Evercade software and can accept two cartridges at once. The machine, will also allow up to four players at once and features four usb ports.

The design of the machine matches the colour scheme and look of the Evercade handheld console, and is also reminiscent of the Famicom and Nintendo Wii visually.

The controller looks like a hybrid between the NES and Super Nintendo controllers and interestingly features four shoulder buttons where as the Evercade handheld machine only features two. The controllers look to have fixed wires rather than be wireless has the now standard diamond configuration of action buttons just as the handheld does.

The machine will also feature built in WiFi and will be able to connect to the internet for firmware updates. The menu selection of games on the cartridges also looks to be getting an overhaul which is interesting as it looks as if this will be built into the system itself as these new menus obviously weren’t available in previously released games.

The machine is scheduled to release in November 2021 with pre-orders opening in May.

In what may be the most interesting tease in the trailer, they showed the Evercade VS with all of the previously released and announced games lined up behind it. This showed a couple of games which haven’t come out yet, but are already known about, but also shows a mystery new game at the end of the list.

This game has a purple box art design which makes it stand out from every other release which has a red design. It says on the side of the box the phrase ‘What is this then?’ and the cartridge is marked as ‘Number 01’ suggesting this is a new line as all other games released to date have been marked from 01 with the Atari Collection 1 to number 20 which will be the Mega Cat 2 Collection 2.

This new purple line could just be a new season of games in a sense, or it could be that purple boxed games will only work on the Evercade VS. It will be interesting to see if this is the case, as up to this point the games for the Evercade have spanned from the earliest Atari 2600 games up to a game like Worms Armagedon which released during the PSOne and Nintendo 64 era. It could be that the new collection may even feature more PSOne era games. The big hint to this would be that the Evercade VS controller features four shoulder buttons just as the original Playstation did, but doesn’t feature an analogue stick which would be required for faithful ports of most games from systems such as the Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast.

If we do get Playstation 1 games what would you like to see released on the Evercade? Let us know in the comments section.
