Andrew Garfield “Claims” He Is Not Returning As Spider-Man In Spider-Man No Way Home

One of the downsides about being a famous actor in a highly anticipated movie is that there is likely to be loads of speculation and rumours about the film, and it’s your job to help maintain the secrets so not to give spoilers.

This gets so much more difficult when you’re an actor rumoured to be involved in a project and your very involvement would be a massive spoiler.

A tweet from an interview on the Happy Sad Podcast with former Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield has been floating around where Garfield is directly asked and directly denies involvement in the new MCU film.

You can see the clip here:

Both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire have been heavily rumoured to return as Spider-Man in the next MCU Spider-Man film. But this denial doesn’t seem to fit the huge amount of evidence to the contrary.

I fully believe this is an actor who when put on the spot is instructed to lie to protect the audience from spoilers. Let’s examine the evidence.

Let’s look at the MCU, Spider-Man and the impending Multiverse of Madness. In the last Spider-Man movie they directly spoke about the multiverse, but explained this away as being a lie. WandaVision then brought in an alternative Pietro, but explained this was not what it seemed. This was Marvel trolling it’s fans with stunt casting, but with all these multiverse teases and the next Doctor Strange film being titled The Multiverse of Madness we know that the MCU intends to bring in alternate realities and with that will come alternate versions of characters we already know.

Add to this that Spider-Man has already had the Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse film which directly had the web slinger meet alternate versions of himself and fans have every reason to believe the rumours that the next Spider-Man film will bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their versions of the character.

It was even rumoured that there had been the idea of bringing the past Spider-Men back for the animated Spiderverse film, but maybe Sony and Marvel saw this as an event that should be saved for live action.

J.K Simmons already returned as JJ Jameson at the end of Spider-Man Far From Home having played the role in the Tobey Maguire lead movies.

Recently Alfred Molina who played Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 directly spoke about being in the new film, and it was confirmed that Jamie Fox would be back as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

So are we really to believe that Marvel and Sony would bring back Doc Ock, Electro and JJ Jameson and not Spider-Man? Not for a second.

Add to this that the stunt performer who doubles for Andrew Garfield was spotted on set and it all seems to add up right?

Well let’s look at the evidence against this theory. When WandaVision was on the audio description referred to Pietro as the X-Men version of Pietro, and despite this we now know that this wasn’t accurate in the story. Also with Garfield’s denial could we all just be living with wishful thinking and have this wrong?

Time will tell, but I’m still of the opinion that the evidence for the three Spider-Men teaming up far outweighs the opposite. And if the rumours are true just remember to forgive Andrew as he’s simply doing the tough job of protecting the audience from spoilers for their own benefit…which is a heroic act fitting of Spider-Man!
