This review is of the variant version of the All Ego Ethan Page figure. A near identical figure was previously released, and we’ll go over what’s changed on this variant a bit later on, but for all intents and purposes, everything said in this review will also apply to the original version of the figure.

As a final note before we get into the meat of the review, we’ll note that for the time being we haven’t opened the package of this one yet, as like with other collectible figures intended for adult collectors, many collectors will only ever have this figure sealed MOC. If/when we get a second figure or decide to open it up, we’ll update the review.

Ethan Page, is currently a star in All Elite Wrestling, but is also known for his time in Impact Wrestling. This Ethan Page figure makes up part of the first series of figures from Chella Toys which also includes Nick Aldis, The Blue Meanie and Josh Shernoff Mind of the Meanie double pack, The Dynamite Kid, Hayabusa and Bull Nakano. Page stands out from this line up as the most currently visible in the wrestling world, being part of AEW.

As we’ll have covered in our previous reviews of the Nick Aldis figure and our Mind of the Meanie two pack review, these figures in the Wrestling MegsStars line are designed to be a call back to the Hasbro WWF action figures that ran until the mid 1990s. Chella Toys clearly understand that their main market for the figures are adult collectors, and this is reflected by the age rating on the front of the card that states that the figures are for ‘ages 15 and up’.

The figure itself is a really well-designed piece and is recognisable as Page. We’ve been following the Wrestling MegaStars since their first release, and having seen the newer figures that have been revealed, but are still yet to come out, it’s clear that they have improved their designs with every new figure.

It’s always been the case with the Hasbro WWF figures, and the other retro style figures that have emerged since that the proportions aren’t very accurate to real life, and most notably the figures usually have shorter leg length than they should. This has been true of the Mattel official WWE retros, and is also the case with the Zombie Sailor Toys retros. This Ethan Page figure is fairly well proportioned compared to some others we’ve seen, with the most notable critique we can give it being that the neck length is perhaps a tad short.

The figure is clearly inspired by the design of several past Hasbro figures. It has the same stance and arm position as the first Macho Man Randy Savage figure that was also later used as the basis for the 2nd Shawn Michaels and Marty Janetty figures as well the figure of Rick Martel.

Interestingly, on the original figure to use that body design, the Randy Savage had visible wrist tape and what was supposed to be either knuckle tape or gloves, but these were not painted on the final release. The same mold meant that the Martel and Janetty figures both had unpainted knuckle tape, but had the wrist tape painted, and the Michaels figures had the wrists downwards painted as gloves.

The Ethan Page design, though inspired by this past mold, is fully original and features wrist tape, but they have not added in the detail of unpainted knuckle tape. Certainly this was a good design choice, but would have been a cool homage if they had kept this flaw of the originals in.

I had mentioned that the feet of the Nick Aldis figure felt particularly small, and on the MegsStars figures since, including this one, this is no longer an issue.

Facially, the figure has a good likeness and another improvement over the Nick Aldis figure is that there is a visible upper eyelash line to give definition to the shape of the eyes. As mentioned, the neck could have been slightly longer, and we can look to the Rick Martel figure from the past as what would have been a good neck length for this. The other classic figures did have slightly shorter necks however.

The packaging is once again a fairly faithful recreation of what the original Hasbro figures had. The bubble the figure comes in is squared off whilst the originals had more of an outline of the specific figure. The shape and inclusion of the Real MegaStars Action move description are all on point with the classic look, and there is even humour within the design. Chella Toys note that they are big kids and as the figure isn’t spring loaded like on the Hasbro figures it has fun with explaining how to make the figure execute it’s special move.

Just as mentione don the Aldis figure review, the special move of this figure, which in the case of Ethan Page is the Big Boy Bomb, is explained as articulating the figures arms up and then moving them down again. Classic!

In terms of this being a variant figure, it’s perhaps not the most exciting figure Chella Toys have put out yet. Whilst there were bloody and fully gold versions of Nick Aldis and a glow in the dark Adam Bomb, the change to this Ethan Page is that his trunks are black instead of red. Considering Page just wears trunks and boots as his ring attire there couldn’t have been too much else that they could have done, but as is the case for me, this was just another opportunity to get the figure as I had missed it the first time it was available.

These figures are usually available as pre-order items on the Chella Toys website, which means that you normally have to put in your order a few weeks or months before the figures are ready to ship. It’s normal that by the time figures are being shipped to people that the figures are listed as sold out on the website, which is common with limited edition and niche collectibles, but has never been my preference. I’ve always preferred the idea that you can have the choice to order something when it is available and ready to ship, but I understand that it benefits a smaller company’s business plan to know a ballpark figure of how many figures they’ll need to produce based on demand.

Conclusion

As a variant on the original figure, this perhaps isn’t the most must have update that we’ve seen, but collectors who are completionists will eat it up anyway. The Ethan Page figure is a great design based on one of the classic Hasbro figure poses which fits the persona of All Ego Ethan Page.

Wrestling figure collectors and even AEW fans should want to get an Ethan Page figure in their collection, and it’s great to see a current star included in this line to flesh out the range of wrestlers currently represented in retro form.
