This Jeff Jarrett retro Hasbro WWF style figure from Zombie Sailor Toys is one of the most important retros to be released in a long time. This orange carded retro Jeff Jarrett which is released as part of the Heels and Faces brand helps fill in a gap in the classic Hasbro WWF figures collection that fans have known about for decades.
After the hard to get green series of figures was released (just about) there was work on the next series of figures. The orange series. But at this point in the mid 1990s the Hasbro era of WWF figures came to an end to make way for bend ems and eventually the taller more posable style figures we have today. This orange series would have featured the likes of Diesel, Men on a Mission and of course Jeff Jarrett.
The Hasbro Jeff Jarrett figure never got released, but thanks to Zombie Sailor Toys it’s finally become a reality. I say that because this figure, like the other Heels and Faces figures has had its initial design drawn by Ron Rudat, who is the legendary designer of the original WWF Hasbro figures. This may even use the original mid 1990s design.
For most collectors this will stay mint on card, but if you do let it breath it’s a shame that like the other Heels and Faces it doesn’t have the spring loaded action to truly make it fit in with the classic Hasbro figs.
The design is of the classic clothesline pose and whilst this is fine, and made to match the original design plans from the 1990s, I can’t help but feel they missed a trick by not having this inspired by the original Honkey Tonk Man figure which came with a guitar. It always feels like the Jeff Jarrett figures should come with his trademark guitar to smash over the heads of his opponents.
The costume of the figure is bright and typical of Jarrett’s first run in the WWE. The face is slightly more questionable than some of the other Heels and Faces and whilst you may not instantly look at the face in isolation and say it’s screams Jeff Jarrett it does suffice as part of the overall package.
It’s cool to see this figure released complete with orange card, and it will go nicely alongside the Chella Toys Adam Bomb, and the upcoming Mo, and the upcoming WWE Mattel and Chella Greg Valentines in the Rhythm and Blues outfits as figures that help many collectors fill in gaps of rare or unreleased figures form back in the day.
Conclusion
As with all these retros from indie creators you’ll need to have already pre-ordered and bought the figure or be left relying on the likes of eBay to get your hands on one. This Jeff Jarrett does stand out more than some others for its history and shows that some things that seemingly get lost to time can eventually see a release.
