Who played a superhero character for the longest time?
There’s a few ways to answer that question, so let me clarify.
What I’m talking about here is that the same actor plays the same named superhero in multiple appearances in film or TV.
What I’m not talking about is who has accumulatively played a superhero for the longest on screen. That will be a discussion for another time.
Lots of you may fairly assume it is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but it’s not him. Though to be fair he probably has had the most consistent run and other than a cameo of Henry Cavill as the character in Deadpool and Wolverine, had never been recast.
Well, one option that people often think is the correct answer is Wesley Snipes.
But I’m afraid the man who played Blade, didn’t break the Guinness World Record for the longest time playing a live action Marvel character.
Snipes played Blade in three live action movies from the late 1990s, and then returned to play the character in the 2024 Deadpool and Wolverine movie.
That is close, but there is one which some may consider controversial, but I’d say is justified.
Lou Ferrigno first played the Hulk in 1977, and last played him credited in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk…and yeah, he just voiced the character, but it was a live action movie. To say he didn’t play the role would be the same as saying that Mark Ruffalo has never played the Hulk because he’s CGI. And to take things further Ferrigno played the Hulk uncredited all the way up to Thor Ragnorok.
So, in terms of records…Hulk Smash!
