Walking Dead fans, let’s talk about the biggest missed opportunity in the TV show.
And yeah, I’m saying in the TV show, as I’m a TV guy, not a comic guy.
So, sue me.
Having watched all of The Walking Dead on TV, the biggest mistake the show ever made was putting basically no energy or focus on the characters trying to cure whatever the reason why others were turning into zombies…sorry walkers.
The end of the first season showed us a laboratory and revealed the idea that after your dead everyone becomes a zombie no matter what…
But after this, the idea of exploring how or why people become walkers is barely spoken of.
Except the character Eugene of course, but then it’s revealed that he’s just lying to make it so other survivors like Abraham think he’s important and should protect him.
So, why aren’t any of the characters ever talking about finding a cure?
Now, I know people will say that the focus of the Walking Dead is on survival and not the science of the virus, but this doesn’t quite cut it for me.
I think we can look at real world events with viruses to know this is BS as the world of the Walking Dead should be full of crack pots coming up with wacky cures and solutions.
How much more fun would it have been if there were either evil or crazy surviving humans saying that you need to gargle with lemon juice mixed with a little bleach and it’ll take that walker stank right off your breath, or that you can transplant a walker’s mind into a healthy human body to bring them back.
You have to admit this would have opened up some fun possibilities.
But even if you take the crazy out the scenario, the Walking Dead did eventually get repetitive of the seasons just being Rick and Daryl etc just meeting a rival gang of humans who were the main threat whilst walkers lost their fear factor.
There should have been more of an ongoing quest for people to study and discover secrets about how and why everyone turns.
