Extreme Championship Improv started out just as the name of a show from Sparky Buddy Productions, but has since become the name of the improv group which is run by Sparky Buddy Productions.
Our company has an emphasis on creating high quality improvised comedy shows with high production values. We also pride ourselves on the level of innovation in our shows and are always developing new ideas to take improv further. Another thing we pride ourselves on is our commitment to provide a platform for people of all experience levels and abilities. History
Extreme Championship Improv is the latest and greatest form of improvised theatre from Sparky Buddy Productions, a film and theatre company based in the UK.
Originally founded in 2010 by artistic director David Pustansky, the company was originally formed as a pure improv theatre company known as The Improdigies Theatre Company. Our debut show It’s A Scandal! had it’s debut at The Etcetera Theatre in Camden, and was then was the headlining act of the 2010 Nursery Festival. Over the years we performed in several festivals and at many venues across the country showing off our brand of improvised madness.
In 2014 the company had started to branch out into both scripted projects and film and other mediums, so the name of the Improdigies Theatre Company was changed as we were no longer just doing improv or theatre. The name Sparky Buddy Productions was chosen, named after David’s pet budgie Sparky and pet dog Buddy, and the phrase ‘Sparky Buddy’ has the meaning ‘Lively and high spirited friend’ which David felt encompassed what the company was all about.
Despite our expanded focus at Sparky Buddy Productions, we never lost our love for the joy of improvised theatre. Throughout the years we have continued to perform improv and develop our improv shows including branching out into various forms including podcasts and web episodes.
In 2017 Sparky Buddy Productions launched Extreme Championship Improv which has gone bigger then any of our previous improv shows. With it’s success, it’s taken the company full circle in a sense as we realised that the Extreme Championship Improv brand was being viewed as more then just a the single show from Sparky Buddy Productions, but as the company. So with that David realised that much in the same way Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm were owned by Disney, that Extreme Championship Improv was becoming it’s own brand that whilst still owned by Sparky Buddy Productions, would benefit with it’s own web presence including dedicated website and social media channels.
